In December 2002, the Clean Water Coalition Board appointed community members to serve on the CWC Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC is comprised of nearly 30 individuals who represent a variety of community groups, stakeholders and organizations.
Purpose of the CAC
The purpose of the CAC is to provide guidance to the CWC in their effort to identify and implement acceptable long-term solutions for the treatment, discharge and reuse of the community's wastewater. The CAC was formed to assist in the development of the EIS and SCOP process. The CAC provides valuable input to the CWC and its member agencies and board.
“To support the Clean Water Coalition in their efforts to identify and implement environmentally and financially sound long-term solutions for the treatment, discharge and reuse of our community’s wastewater by studying the nature of our wastewater needs, examining possible solutions to our challenges, including water conservation, evaluating the effect and impact of the proposed solutions and making recommendations to the CWC Management Board for implementation.”
CAC Recommendations
On February 19, 2004, the CAC Recommendations were presented to and approved by the CWC Board.
The CAC received presentations from the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the CWC Member Agencies, and several other Southern Nevada agencies.
When making their recommendations, the CAC received much information in the areas of engineering, financial planning, community outreach, modeling, and regional planning.
In order to understand the wastewater and water system the CAC toured the CWC wastewater facilities, the Las Vegas Wash, and potential alternate discharge locations.
The CAC Recommendations Report will be available online soon. Please contact the Clean Water Coalition if you would like a copy of the report. The CWC can be reached at (702) 319-4433, or via email.
CAC Meetings
The CAC meets when required at a publicly-noticed meeting. The CAC has met 12 times since 2002. CAC meetings are open to the public and generally take place in the Henderson Convention Center (200 Water Street in Henderson) unless otherwise specified.
CAC Recommendation #3 called for verification of the results and approach used by the CAC.
This verification is needed to ensure the results are on target to resolve the issues associated with the purpose of the CAC.
The CAC will meet again when needed.
